ABOUT

INGVILD LANGGÅRD is a Norwegian composer, singer and performer, whose interdisciplinary practice includes music for film, stage, ensemble, sound installations and performative works.

Langgård has a long time interest in the materiality of sound and its affective potensial, and her work often uses extended techniques for vocals and instruments, field recordings, foley art, self built instruments, sampling and electro acoustic processing, always seeking new timbres and textures. Recurrent themes and interests in her work are mythology and folklore, spiritual minimalism, ritual practices and trancing, vocal practices, folk traditions, traditional music, psychoacoustics and sonic phenomena.

Langgård is currently pursuing a PhD at the Norwegian Film school, University of Innland, Norway, with a research project exploring the materiality of sound as a means to musical and sonic world building, blending diegetic sounds, soundscape and film music composition.

Langgård has released two albums under the name Phaedra, and one album with the duo Runnershigh. Her work have been shown at venues and festivals nationally and internationally, such as Nationaltheatret, Det Norske Teatret, Ultimafestivalen, brutWien, Ice Hot Nordic Dance Platform, Copenhagen, Inkonst, Malmø, MDT, Stockholm, Kunstencentrum BUDA, Kortrijk, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, Portland, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Contemporary Arts Center Cincinnati, Xixi Dance Festival, Hangzhou, Colourful Guizhou Arts Festival, Guiyang, and Beijing Dance Festival, Beijing, among others.

Langgård is frequently collaborating with other artists, performers, directors and choreographers, such as Lisa Lie, Harald Beharie, Magnus Myhr, Signe Becker, Pinquins, Arild Andresen, Victoria Meirik, Ingri Fiksdal and Ane Marthe Sørlien Holen.

Langgård has BA and MA in sound art from the National Academy of the Arts, Oslo. She holds a Cand. Mag degree in Norse filologi, History of Religions and Literature Science from the University of Oslo. Langgård has been awarded several grants for her work, such as the Norwegian State´s Working Grant and support from the Norwegian Arts Council, and was nominated for the Hedda award for her music in Skeleton Woman.
